Winning Teams

By Michael Dunbar

Junior High – The Eagles have had their fair share of successful teams. In 1998 the school produced its lone state championship in a team sport as the boy’s junior high baseball team captured the state title at Waltonville. The team coached by Mr. Aaron Tebbe finished 2nd in the state basketball tournament losing the championship by one point. The boys teams had several state placings in both basketball and baseball in the 80’s and again in the late 90’s. Odin Jr. High has recently brought back the sports of cross country and track. This has led to several state placings including Lexi Barton winning the school’s first individual state championship in the high jump.

High School – O.H.S. has had several outstanding sports teams. The baseball teams of the mid-to-late 80’s were very dominate with the 86-87 team setting the school record for wins with 38.1980 To find the winningest basketball team from Odin’s history one would have to look back to 1947 when the team posted the schools only 30 win season. Odin was a basketball powerhouse through the 1950’s. This trend picked up again in the late 60’s and early 80’s with Odin teams posting outstanding records. The current Eagles are also posting excellent records with the 2009 team winning 20 games for the first time since early 1981. 2009 was a record-setting year on more than just the basketball floor as an outstanding Eagle’s softball team brought home the school’s first regional title. The best winning percentage of any coach goes to Mrs. Sara Miller who during her tenure as softball coach won 168 games while losing only 64.
